Twenty years at the table — no-limit hold’em cash games. I’m based in Austin, and I still study the game constantly, because it never stops moving and neither should you.

My approach is exploitative: real poker against real people. Solvers can tell you the textbook play; the money comes from noticing how the person across from you differs from the textbook, and taking what they give you. I learned to see the game that way in years of sessions with my coach, Tyler Forrester — and what I took from those sessions became a book, Reading the Table, and eventually a whole training site.

The Training Site

Most of my teaching lives on a site I built called WAYOFLONO — the name comes from my online handle, Lono. I made it first as a study tool for my own game, and it grew into a training ground: the full book, a structured video curriculum, hand-reading quizzes built from real hands, and a community of players improving together. Here’s what’s inside:

Along the way I’ve also built the smaller tools I wanted to exist: an Anki deck of 200+ flashcards for spaced repetition, a range converter, an RNG for mixed-strategy practice, a desktop notes overlay for online play — even a meditation room and an I-Ching for the part of the game strategy doesn’t reach.
